Artist Bio

Rella Carpenter was raised in Northeastern Ohio and moved to Houston, Texas as a teenager where she lived for 32 years.  She currently resides in Scottsdale, AZ.  Rella has always had an interest in art from craft projects, designing and sewing doll clothes to painting with oils and watercolors.

Meeting Master Artist Judith Durr at an Art Festival in Cave Creek, AZ in early 2000’s had a profound impact on her desire to start painting seriously. She took art lessons for a year from Judith Durr who encouraged her to develop her own style, paint daily, and learn from each painting.  She taught Rella how to see the world differently; look at the angles, shadows, reflections and color.  She opened a whole new world of possibilities.

Rella’s passion for animals, specifically, rescue animals, was the inspiration for her colorful pet portraiture. Her paintings use bright colors that fill the canvas.  She gets joy from portraying these pets in happy bright colors, unusual expressions and gestures – her paintings make her smile and she hopes her viewers will smile as well.

Rella is just starting this wonderful artistic adventure and continues to grow, experiment and have fun creating art.

She is a member of the Sonoran Arts League.
